Interwaste owns and operates 12 technologically advanced sterilization units in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, providing MPI approved treatement and disposal services for at risk goods entering New Zealand through all ports of entry (including international airports and ports) as well as for importers and other generators of biosecurity waste in New Zealand.
Our plant at Auckland International Airport uses state of the art technology and is one of the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The plant can processes over 900 tonnes of quarantine and medical waste per month, and in itself treats approximately 75% of all biosecurity wastes in New Zealand in an efficient and environmentally conscious manner.
Interwaste's steam sterilization plant replaced the last industrial incinerator in New Zealand based at Auckland International Airport, a major step towards sustainable waste disposal in New Zealand.
